Mystery Paro Nhutan Tiger Nest Monastery At Paro Valley
Taktsang Monastery, also known as Tiger’s Nest Monastery, is located in Paro, Bhutan, about 10 kilometres north of Paro city. The monastery is one of the most venerated places of pligrimage in the Himalayan region. The legend behind the Tiger’s Nest monastery is just as amazing and magical as its location of being perched precariously high on a cliff (over 3000 meters above the Paro Valley).
Tiger’s Nest Monastery is believed to be the birthplace of Buddhism in Bhutan, making it the most sacred monastery in the country. Precariously perched high up on a sheer cliff a dizzying 10,000 feet/3,048 meter above sea level, it certainly also has the most stunning and fascinating location.
Wonderful Hike To The Tiger’s Nest
The Tiger’s Nest can be found just over 6 miles north of Paro. It is hanging on a cliff 10,240 ft over the Paro Valley. From the ground it is often shrouded by a thick mist but this glimpse alone will motivate you to reach the top.
There are two ways to reach the monastery. The challenging option is to hike all the way up and the easier (but not safer) option is to ride a horse up to allowed points and then hike from there.
Along the way up to the mysterious Tiger’s Nest Monastery, there are teahouses and Pavilion rest stop to catch your breath and have a nice cup of coffee.
